Irene Shaland Returns to the Phix An internationally-published art and travel writer, educator, and lecturer, Irene has a life-long passion for travel with a higher purpose. Together with her husband-photographer Alex, Irene has visited over 60 countries. Her research trips result in numerous publications and series of educational lectures and slide-shows focused on various countries’ responses to Holocaust, Jewish history, little-known Jewish communities, origins of traditions and myths, sense of identity, and personal stories. Irene regularly presents to academic and lay audiences in universities, museums, libraries, synagogues, JCCs, and art galleries in Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, and New York/New Jersey area.
Irene is the author of two books on the history of theater, drama, and intercultural interpretations. Her third book “The Dao of Being Jewish and Other Stories” has been published in January 2016. Irene’s over 25 articles dedicated to arts, theater, and cultural and historical travel have appeared in multiple journals both in print and online in the U.S., Canada, Kenya, and the U.K.
Irene holds a BA in Theater Journalism and Art History from St. Petersburg University (Russia), a Master’s Degree in English from Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio), and a Master’s Degree in Information Sciences from Kent State University (Kent, Ohio). Irene and her husband, travel photographer Alex reside in Lyndhurst, Ohio.

Hot Licks @ The Phix. Come join host Lorne Franklin and Andy Oster for a First Thursday Jam session of all types of music. Coffee Phix has the perfect setting for acoustic style performances and we invite you to come and Jam with us. Musicians, singers doesn't matter. This is a medium where you can come and show case your talent and play with other musicians in the area. We're just having fun and listening to good music. Every First Thursday at 6:30 pm JOIN US! Chess Returns to The Phix
We are excited to announce Chess is back @The Phix. Starting Sunday March 19th a 1:00 pm we invite all those who are interested to "Come and get your Chess On!" Bring your own board or use one of ours. Of course you can always come to the Phix and play chess anytime, but the 3rd Sunday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm will be designated as Sunday afternoon chess. As the program grows we may extend to additional Sundays in the month. Also check out chess every 1st and 3rd Wednesday (6 to 8 pm) with the Northcoast Chess Club - all players are welcomed
You may remember Nicole Miller from her appearance at our Author Author Series. Well she published Volume II of the 2nd book in her series "How to Overcome Heartbreak "Stories That Heal" Nicole has returned to the Phix for a book signing and appearance for this new novel. Saturday March 11 from 12 am to 2 pm.

Eve N Stephen
Eve 'n' Stephen & The Three D's perform "Now's the Time" at Cain Park's Alma Theater on July 28th, 2012.
Eve and Stephen married for 36 years, began performing together as the duo Eve ‘n’ Stephen in 2011. Together they blend a mix of Folk, Folk/Pop, Roots and Americana music that audiences seem to really connect to. In 2013 they released their first CD “Now’s the Time”. They have performed at many venues throughout Northeast, Ohio and have now found a regular home at the Coffee Phix Café. Come see them perform live on February 24th at 7:00 pm.
